Amazonは、情勢が厳しくなったその瞬間に、ウィキリークスをAmazon EC2というクラウドサービスから追い出した。どうやら、Joe Liebermanという米国上院議員がごう慢病の末期患者らしく、この件についてAmazonを威嚇したのだ。後にLiebermanは、「Amazonにウィキリークスとの関係の深さについて、また、Amazonおよび他のプロバイダーが、各社のサービスを将来盗まれた機密情報を配布することに使わせないために何を行うつもりなのかについて尋ねた」と堂々と述べた。これを受けて、ニューヨーカー誌のAmy Davidsonは、Lierbermanに対して。「ニューヨーカーがリークされた機密文書を含む内容を用意しているとき、Lierbermanあるいはほかの上院議員がニューヨーカーを刷る印刷機を操縦している会社に電話をかけ、その発行を止めるように言うことができると思っているのかどうか」について尋ねた。
